ABOUT MR WOODWARD

A consultant-led approach to colorectal & gastrointestinal care.

Mr Alan Woodward is a consultant general and colorectal surgeon with more than 25 years of experience, appointed consultant in 1995 following training in Wales, Liverpool and the United States. Formerly based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, his clinical interests span hernia surgery, colorectal disease and gallbladder conditions, with particular expertise in complex and recurrent hernia repair. Fifteen years ago, he founded the Cardiff Hernia Clinic, and his broad surgical training has given him command of techniques ranging from mesh to non-mesh suture repair, including hernia repair under local anaesthesia for elderly or higher-risk patients. Every patient is guided personally by Mr Woodward, from initial assessment through to full recovery.

WHY PATIENTS CHOOSE MR WOODWARD

More than 25 years of trusted surgical care

Since being appointed as a consultant general and colorectal surgeon in 1995, Mr Woodward has built a reputation across South Wales for careful, consultant-led care rather than a rotating team of junior doctors. He has published extensively throughout his career and was consistently recognised as the most widely published researcher at Cwm Taf University Health Board, reflecting a genuine academic commitment alongside his clinical practice. As an Honorary Undergraduate Lecturer at Cardiff University Medical School and an Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons, he continues to shape the next generation of surgeons while remaining hands-on with every patient he treats personally.
